David Utts is the CEO and Founder of Executive Skill Works (ESW) – a twelve-year-old firm that provides complete and proven systems for maximizing the success of executive leaders and their teams.  As an emerging thought leader in the field of leadership development and an innovator in developing strategically focused executive and team development programs, David has personally helped top corporate and nonprofit leaders as well as their teams to:

David developed his interest in leadership development during a successful fifteen year career as a sales professional.  He worked for a number of organizations across several industries (Insurance, Telecommunications and Office Products) and witnessed first hand how strong leadership facilitated a company’s success as well as how poor leadership held success back.  This experience spurred him on to continue his education and tap his corporate experience to assist leaders and leadership teams in being more successful.

  • 24 years of business experience in a cross section of industries and sectors.
  • Over 12 Years of experience as a consultant and executive coach to senior leadership and their teams.
  • Masters in Science in Organizational Development, American University/NTL.
  • Master Certified Coach (MCC) through the International Coach Federation (ICF) since 1999.
  • Graduate of three post-graduate programs focusing on groundbreaking theory and practices in leadership and coaching (Newfield Networks, New Ventures West, The Leadership Circle).
  • Co-founder of The Executive Coaching Institute, whose focus is helping highly experienced management consultants develop as executive coaches and integrate executive coaching into their practice offerings.
  • Member of the Executive Coaching Summit, an elite worldwide network of senior executive development experts researching and integrating best practices in the field.
  • Published author on leadership, executive coaching and building successful executive coaching programs in organizations.

David lives in Columbia, Maryland – a Baltimore-Washington Suburb.  He is married to and has four children.  He is also a certified scuba diver and enjoys exploring new dive sites whenever he can.
