Have you ever had the experience of walking into a Steven Covey Store and being excited by the possibilities all those planners and special inserts generated for you?  Maybe you just got a new software for your Iphone, blackberry or office computer that promised to help you leverage your time more effectively?   Well let me ask – how is that going for you?  In my experience such systems spread false hope that we can actually manage time.  In a sense, we have no real control over time and the whole concept of time is made up anyway.    (more…)

USA Today reported today how quarterback Aaron Rogers of the Green Bay Packers used vision to be one step away from the Superbowl. In this article, Green Bay Packers Quarterback, Aaron Rodgers talks about the power of visualization. He credits his daily mental practice in helping the Packers reach the post season – and for pounding the Atlanta Falcons, the #1 seed, 48-21 last weekend.

Rodgers says he learned how to visualize from a coach, which he was in 6th grade. He also says most of the big plays he made in the upset victory over Atlanta, he pictured in his imagination first. (more…)

  • What vision is and what it is not
  • The true power of vision and how to deploy it
  • Specific exercises for awakening vision and leveraging it every day

First, let’s talk about why vision is so powerful.  To discuss this, we must first realize that most of us grossly under estimates what we are capable of.   To challenge this take a moment to examine any great breakthrough, innovation, historical transformation, business success, etc. you can think of and choose one that you are most impressed by.  When you examine this you will almost always find one leader or a small group of leaders who made it happen.   Sure these leaders were supported by a cast of hundreds if not thousands and if they are worth their weight as a leader they will always give those that followed them their due saying “it could not happened without my team.”  Yet, any major business success starts in the minds and hearts of those leaders who created the breakthroughs and for them this breakthrough started with VISION! There are two reasons we don’t get what we want.  The reasons:

  1. We don’t set clear goals and/or may lack the necessary crystal clarity around what we really want.  This lack of crystal clarity holds us back.
  2. We have inner obstacles – habits of thinking, emoting and behaving – that for the most part remain hidden from us that act like a wet blanket over our success in certain areas.  And even if we are clear about certain “blocker habits” – we tend think “that’s just the way I am – I really can’t change that about me, even though, I know it blocks me from greater success. What can I do?
